Homestead Strike of 1892

Joseph was captain of the 14th Regiment, Company E, N. G. P. during the strike and was one of 6,000 state militia called in to surround the plant and stop the picketing of  union workers at the Homestead steel mill. It only took 20 minutes and company employees were able to get back in their offices to work. They then protected the plant in the aftermath.
